Here is a copy of the May 2019 Report for the Choir that appears in the Chippenham Gazette & Herald.
Saturday 27th April saw us singing at the Calne Spring Sing between 11:00 and 15:30 and then again at Hardenhuish School in the evening. All the choir agreed that it was a long, but enjoyable, day.
At the Calne Spring Sing we sang in 3 locations – Calne Free Church, The Library and the Heritage Centre. We sang for fifteen minutes at each location, with songs including An American Trilogy, You Raise Me Up, Sweet Georgia Brown, I Dreamed A Dream and a popular male voice choir hymn – Gwahoddiad, which we sang in Welsh. The Library was probably the busiest of all locations with at least 60+ in the audience, who gave us some very nice comments.
The evening performance at Hardenhuish School in front of a full hall, was in aid of RNLI, and we shared the event with the excellent Wiltshire Police Band who were under the direction of Martin Perry. The Police Band repertoire included several nautical numbers such as The Lifeboatman, Plymouth Hoe, Bosun’s Fancy, Padstow Lifeboat and Fantasia on British Sea Songs. The Choir repeated many of the numbers that we sang earlier at Calne Spring Sing, but also included other popular songs like Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, Let The River Run and Morte Christe. Our performance culminated again with Gwahoddiad, once more sung in Welsh.
Currently, our next concert will be in Calne on the 6th July for the Calne Musical Medley, which is a similar event to the Spring Sing but featuring songs from musicals and movies.
As ever, we are on the lookout for new singers, especially for our top tenor section, which is an ongoing problem for many male choirs. So, anybody who fancies a sing is welcome to come and give it a go. Interested? Then ring Phil Dyke on 01249 782692, or just turn up to a Monday evening rehearsal. Sit at the back and listen, or have a go and join in. You never know, you might even enjoy it! The evenings start at 7:30pm at St Peter’s Church, Frogwell, Chippenham.
